Dowry No
Laura Martin, «Dowry NO», Bangalore/New Delhi, 2003/2004
A series of pictures dealing with the problematic of dowry in Indian society and its consumerist and murderous outgrowths. The pictures where produced during a residence in Bangalore and New Delhi and placed on stickers, posters or banners in occasion of the sixth Festival of Contemporary Art «Khoj» in Bangalore (2003). The pictures were sold during the festival for the benefit of «Vimochana», an association fighting for women’s right. «Vimochana» and other NGOs as «Action Aid India» and «Action Aid Pakistan» use Laura Martin's pictures in schools, police stations, and during manifestations.
