Family Photo Album

Family photos are taken on special occasions to commemorate unique gatherings. Professionally produced they find their place on shelves, bedside tables, in albums, cardboard boxes, old biscuit tins - symbols of belonging and nostalgia.

Family Portrait, 1976

Clothes, haircuts, surroundings and facial expressions indicate traces of time and the circumstances in which the photos were taken. Repeatedly taken photographs at loose intervals show evidence of the flux of time.
A juxtaposition of a portrait of members of a Gazan family in the 70s with a portrait of a family from Gaza in 2007 should indicate the course of time.

Family Portrait, 2007

It does indeed, yet it tells about the image (artificial representation, stemming from imitari, to copy, to imitate) in the sense of a “public impression”. Stereotypes conceived from the outside and projected onto a people might change an “image” into reality.
